Sophie & Joe’s Greek wedding at Ikos Olivia
There are, it seems, a million ways to tie the knot. I have photographed newlyweds from a two-seater aeroplane at 2,000 feet and I had the privilege of shooting a blessing at Stonehenge. I have captured the special moment at St Paul’s Cathedral and also some of the most grandest venues across Europe. But often, you just can’t beat a Greek beach wedding at Ikos Olivia.
Sophie and Joe were married in the warm October sunshine at Ikos Olivia in Greece. I am a recommended photographer at the five-star resort and each time I go there I’m always impressed. The set-up is perfect and without fail the bride and groom and the wedding guests have smiles on their faces throughout the day. It’s just how a beach wedding should be. Relaxed, informal, lots of fun but also with that little hint of luxury. Greek weddings are so much fun!

The guests also seemed more at ease. Not only do they get to see their loved ones tie the knot in a glorious location… they also get to kick back and enjoy a holiday at the same time! It was an intimate party of 30 to celebrate the Greek wedding of Sophie and Joe. The day started with the bridal preparation in her room and moved on to the ceremony on the seashore with a little Greek tradition, which included wearing the wreaths and sharing the local wine.
The wedding
The combination of colour was beautiful. The ever-changing blue of the sea, the white sand of the beach and the glow of the sun just delivered stunning pictures that will jump from the pages of the wedding album. The landscape was constantly moving with the waves. I find the trick is to look for little moments such as a bride’s dress fluttering a breeze or a pattern in the sea. It can be there one minute and gone the next so you have to react quickly. The light also constantly changed throughout the day, with various reflections of the sand and sea and then finally you are rewarded with the sunset shots.
No destination beach wedding is ever the same. Each section of the day was planned to precision by Anna and the team at Ikos. Finally, huge thanks to Sophie, Joe, family and their friends. I loved being part of your big, fun Greek wedding. I wish you all the happiness for the future. Love, Maria. Please enjoy my pictures 🙂
