South Lodge Hotel twilight wedding ceremony

Nested in almost 100 acres of stunning Sussex countryside with unobstructed view of the South Downs, South Lodge Hotel and Spa in Lower Beeding hosted Lucy and Simon’s twilight wedding ceremony. It was an absolute honour to capture this intimate wedding at the ‘Venue of the year’ – awarded by C&IT in 2022.

I loved the soft winter lights, the subtle colours and the dramatic panoramic views.  For such a stunning location I used lots of vertical symmetry, one of my composition trademarks. It pictures not only the two halves balanced and harmonious but the newly weds too. The approach carries throughout my images as I like to give equal weight to covering the bride and groom individually as well. The twilight timing also allowed for some quite unique silhouette shots at the end. I loved the outline of Lucy against the warm orange tones, with the Christmas decorations adding a further dimension to the image.
